The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe “Ocean Commitment II” (BOC II), ref. 5000-0240-O52A, is a special edition watch launched in 2016. Its historical context and significance are tied directly to Blancpain’s philanthropic efforts to preserve and explore the world’s oceans. This was the second timepiece in the Ocean Commitment series, produced as a limited edition of 250 pieces. For each watch sold, Blancpain pledged €1,000 to the cause, totaling €250,000. The watch is distinguished by its technologically advanced case construction: it features a 43.6mm case made entirely of satin-brushed blue ceramic, a technically challenging material that provides exceptional scratch resistance and a unique, deep color. The unidirectional bezel also uses blue ceramic with Liquidmetal™ markers. The sunburst blue dial features the Ocean Commitment logo at 6 o’clock. Powering the watch is the in-house Caliber 1315, the same robust movement found in the larger 45mm Fifty Fathoms, offering a 120-hour (5-day) power reserve and a silicon balance spring for amagnetic properties. A key feature visible through the sapphire caseback is the special winding rotor, crafted from 18k gold and coated in NAC platinum, bearing the “Ocean Commitment” insignia.
